Hell Hath No Fury (July, August & November 2015)

Written, Directed and Performed by Emma Hopkins

Betrayal, witchcraft, family and love.

The back story to one of Shakespeare’s most villainous women, Lady Macbeth. Hell Hath No Fury proposes a different side to the cold, manipulative woman whose greed and ambition lead to the death and damnation of the man she loved. Set in a modern context, the play follows Lady Macbeth, (Elanor), through her life, drawing parallels with Shakespeare’s infamous tragedy.

Elanor finds herself institutionalised after Duncan’s death. In order to clear her name she invites a writer to help her piece together what really happened. The writer seeks out one of the Witches to tell their version of events and finds there is more to the story than even Elanor knows.

Both women are forced to confront their past and long lost secrets are dredged to the surface, driving Elanor to distraction. We travel alongside Elanor and the Witch experiencing their memories, sharing moments of their journey, as their past and present begin to merge.

Shakespeare paints Lady Macbeth as a cold, manipulative woman who drives her husband to murder in order to satisfy her towering ambition, but is there more to this story than meets the eye?

Taming of The Shrew (May & June 2014)

Adapted by Jo Hopkins and Directed by Sally Hillier

Katherine and Bianca are sisters, unalike in many ways.

Bianca, the youngest, a student, wishes to marry and encourages her suitors with charm and allure. Katherine, (Kate), famously short tempered, quick witted, and potentially violent. She discards and mocks all her wooers out of suit, cutting them with her wicked words and tempestuous outbursts.

Their father, Baptista, an ill-informed, slightly superficial man with a good heart has other ideas– he will not allow Bianca to marry until Katherine’s wed. He simply wishes Kate to mellow and settle down to a married life, unable to see why she can't he encourages suitors in her pursuit rather against their will. Whilst he discourages gentlemen from Bianca despite her insistence on modestly flattering any man she holds well in her sights.

When two gentlemen begin to fight for Bianca’s love they hatch a plan to engage a boisterous stranger to ‘tame’ Katherine into a state of honourable marriage with a challenge he can't refuse.

Petruchio is seeking a wife with a fortune, an arrogant and domineering natured man with as sharp a wit as Kate. When Hortensio and Gremio suggest he is not up to the task of wedding this wicked woman how could he refuse.

When Lucentio lands ashore set to study with his quick witted servant he catches sight of Bianca and falls distractedly in love. He swaps places with his servant, Tranio, to masquerade as a classics tutor in order to gain audience with Bianca whilst Tranio negotiates Bianca's hand in marriage with Baptista.

A stranger, mistaken identity and the persistence of unrequited hearts what could possibly go wrong..?

Much Ado is a four-hand, fast paced, multi-role adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing.

Much Ado is a Shakespearean comedy exploring the love and love-hate relationships of four lovers with underlying deceit, betrayal and sibling rivalry.

RumDoxy bring a contemporary twist to the end creating a tragicomedy set in a world strongly inspired by 80's.

Beatrice and Benedick fight with their emotions with wit and words. Hero's innocence and requited love for Claudio is called into question when Don Jon provides, seemingly undeniable proof of her disloyalty.

In love with a boy, whom we know to be a dame,
And this dame - loves the Duke, to whom she wore here guise,
and presented herself thus... A man in his eyes."
